3 Ways to Close the Gap in Benefits Education

Unfortunately, employees typically don’t invest much time in learning about their benefits options. Colonial Life’s survey found 70% of workers spend less than an hour a year at enrollment time considering their choices and making their selections. Even worse, a third say they spend less than 30 minutes learning about benefits their employer provides.



HHS Proposes to Narrow Scope of Nondiscrimination Regulations under Affordable Care Act

In addition, under the 2016 final regulations, HHS expanded the definition of discrimination on the basis of sex to include discrimination based on gender identity and the termination of pregnancy. However, once the regulations were put into effect, there was significant push back against HHS’s interpretation of sex discrimination.


Increasingly, employers are offering products such as voluntary insurance benefits and health savings accounts (HSAs) that employees can combine to create comprehensive plans that meet their unique needs and goals. With the right plan in place, employees are better able to save consistently, cover unexpected expenses, protect and grow their savings and prepare for health care costs later in life.


The industry has grown at a compound annual growth rate of 5 percent over the last 10 years, even with the decrease in 2010. The graph below shows the growth curve over the past 10 years.
